Katerina Gorou
2022 B.S. California Institute of Technology
Katerina was born in Thessaloniki, Greece and grew up in Forsyth, Illinois. She moved to sunny SoCal for her undergraduate studies and received her B.S. in chemistry from the California Institute of Technology. At Caltech, Katerina initially worked in the lab of Prof. Mitchio Okumura, studying chemical kinetics of the Mars atmosphere, and Prof. Nick Hutzler, investigating excited-state syntheses of laser-coolable molecules. By her senior year, however, she realized that she may be an organic chemist after all, and joined the lab of Prof. Sarah Reisman to give total synthesis a shot. In her free time, Katerina enjoys hiking, playing video games, and facetiming her two pet birds.
