Shang was born and raised in Changchun, China, a beautiful city that snows in winter. He decided to move to Illinois to pursue his chemistry degree. At UIUC, Shang quickly realized total synthesis is amazing by joining Prof. David Sarlah’s lab in 2018. He then decided to move to Berkeley to further explore total synthesis in the Maimone group. Outside the lab, Shang enjoys cooking, sleeping, drinking coffee.
